Remote treatment and self-help

We're not new to this

The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy have issued guidance that the best means of future service delivery would be a mix of in-person and remote consultations.

In the 1990s we began working in this field and used our methods to treat chronic pain and movement disorders as part of a nationwide

study. In a series of 5 studies, we proved remote self-treatment

could be effective, using our methodology. A further

study in 2001 commissioned by Westfield Healthcare led to the results being submitted to the Home Office and subsequently approved for use by UK state agencies.

The studies involved the use of complex and expensive equipment to assess and treat the individuals involved. These devices tracked the movement of body segments and provided information to direct self-treatment. The cost of both the equipment and of training other professionals to use the equipment made it inaccessible to many but nowthis same treatment is available through a webcam via most PCs.. It is currently used by clinicians, individual patients, and case management companies in the Northwest of England.

We are now using this technology for the benefit of our own clients and our results have been described as "Phenomenal' by Dr K Walton a former President of the British Society of Rehabilitative Medicine.
